Beatles Sgt. Pepper's 40 'years ago today' countdown

It's difficult to know when to date some sorts of events. For example, it was approx 40 years ago today, that Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play. The creative process began when?; the recording sessions in late '66; the release in mid '67. In some sense, there is a countdown to the day on which we can say "It was 40 years ago today that Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play." Unless you were buying records in the summer of '67 you may have no idea what I am talking about. If you were...
